The Biro
With 25+ years of experience, our studio specializes in custom typefaces, branding, editorial, and digital design, with a strong passion for information design and visualizing abstract concepts and processes. Our core focus lies in leading our own independent projects and developing original typefaces for clients across both the cultural and commercial sectors.
Based in Ljubljana, Slovenia, our specialized craftsmanship has also led to trusted collaborations with leading advertising agencies and world-renowned type foundries.
Mitja Miklavčič
Mitja is a graphic designer and typographer with over 25 years of experience in visual communication. Early in his career, he worked primarily with leading advertising agencies and design studios in Ljubljana.
He later expanded his practice to London, collaborating closely with specialized type foundries and branding agencies. For the past decade, Mitja has directed an independent studio working at the intersection of typography, graphic and digital design. He also regularly shares his expertise through design education and mentoring.
Teja Smrekar
Teja is a type designer, graphic designer, and educator based in Slovenia. Her practice centres on typography, creating custom typefaces, visual identities, and editorial work where type is both a functional tool and a means of expression.
Alongside her design practice, she teaches typography at the Faculty of Design in Ljubljana, where she mentors the next generation of designers. Teja is also the founder of FlehaType, an independent type foundry focused on original, handcrafted typefaces.
